Finlay Prone

Summary

I have grown up around antique clothes, and have always been fascinated by the textiles, patterns and construction techniques that went into them. I want to be in conservation so that I am able to get my hands on archived costumes that are generally impossible to touch, learning more about them and working to maintain them. 

Career Aspirations 

I would like to work in museums as soon as possible, and preferably one which has a fashion collection! Ultimately, I would love to work in a curatorial or conservation role at a major institution like the V&A or the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where I could be a part of putting together exhibitions. 

I’ve learnt a lot about being meticulous in documentation, cleaning, and laborious treatments. While I have a little experience, I am going to spend the most time going forward developing my hand and machine sewing, pattern making and cutting, and knowledge of historical fashion design and techniques.
